Updated entry - added bonus of photos!!
____________*_____________
We had a child with meningococcal meningitis last night. Very unwell.

Last night duty tonight. I can get some real sleep as of tomorrow night. Yay!

I never wrote about my New Year.

Brian and I went to Byron Bay, a hippie coastal town 2 hours' from Brisbane. There was a big festival happening, with dance parties and bands. We went snorkelling around the headlands during the day - and saw families of sting rays swimming closely together, giant crabs, and millions and millions of tiny silver fish, along with a few, but not so many, big colourful ones.

The sting rays were the best.

That night we got some hot chips and sat on the grass listening to a band. We danced in front of hundreds of people.

We went down to a secluded part of the beach for Brian to practise his fire-twirling. Within minutes, our part of the beach was absolutely packed with fellow fire-twirlers, and onlookers. It was fun being one of the cool kids that everyone wanted to talk to. I was cool by association only (because Brian was one of the twirlers), but it worked for me. I met heaps of people. Most nice, some absolute idiots.

We went back up to watch the fireworks at 11pm (daylight savings), then went for a walk along the beach. We nearly stepped on a couple having sex.

"Can we watch?" I asked Brian with a naughty look in my eye.

"No", he answered.

"...Poor guy is probably having enough trouble as it is without an audience."

We were driving back to Brisbane when it hit 'our' midnight. (I had to work New Year's Day). I think we managed a bit of a kiss at a red light.

And then I slept, and left poor Brian to do the driving.

It was the best New Year of my life.
